High-speed PLC products first emerge in Japan: A full array of products from 20 companies appear at CEATEC

At last, the ban on the high-speed power line communications (PLC) has been lifted. The outlets will transform to LAN ports by using power lines for Megabit class communications. An IT-related general exhibition "CEATEC JAPAN 2006," held for the first time after the form of deregulation was decided, displays a full array of the products that support PLC. The “3rd type of LAN” - after Ethernet and wireless LAN - will appear at the end of 2006.

On October 4th, high-speed PLC deregulated

Home products such as AV transmission applications appear first
Specifications could be compared to those of "wireless LAN" but some problems such as compatibility are left unsolved

Should PLC cause interference with radio communications, its use may be banned

Products and solutions solely for corporate use
Existing buildings can be connected through IP without additional line construction
Such PLC solutions will be provided by companies that have oversees experience

After power lines, visible light will be used for data communications
