Cover Story 1
"FTTR," hybrid of optical and DSL technologies, will start
as early as this summer as an additional option for broadband
A new option has appeared in broadband that has started to switch
from ADSL to FTTH. It is FTTR (fiber to the remote terminal) that
transmits data through optical fiber up to a certain point and through
xDSL from the point to a user's residence.
Parties involved agree
with FTTR in general. Some, however, may fear that the "interference
issue" that caused much controversy three years ago will be rekindled.
Cover Story 2
A new concept of terminal, cell phone for protecting children
from crimes, appears as a tool that sounds an alarm at any time
and any place
We are seeing a succession of (attempted) kidnappings of children during commuting
to and from school across the country. In the wake of this situation, NTT DoCoMo
and KDDI are going to start to provide new types of cell phones that help to
confirm whether children are safe or not.
They will include newly conceived capabilities
such as a "no arbitrary power-off" function.
Cover Story 3
Emergency inspection! - Plug loopholes of Web applications: the root cause of
personal information leakage
The vulnerabilities of Web applications are being seriously targeted. What
wrongdoers aim for is personal information they can sell in a black market.
Attack tools have already gone into circulation, and you may become an easy
victim if you fail to take preventive actions against them. Once the damage
is done, the amount of the damage will easily exceed tens of million yen. You
can waste no time in taking preventive actions.
Best strategy to rectify vulnerabilities without stopping a Web site
The key is how to use proxy
Inspection: Prior preparations are indispensable when inspecting a production
site
Rectification: Avoid closing a site with Web firewall
Re-creation: Vendors cannot be held responsible unless security measures
are explicitly indicated in the specification
Cost is no longer an excuse for failing to implement security measures |
