Softbank vs. MIC: Disputes over entering the cellular market between
Softbank and the MIC leave the possibility of sowing seeds of future
problems, which may flare up at any time
A market entry controversy between Softbank BB and the Ministry of
Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) that centers around the
800 MHz-band allotment is about to end after the MIC has concluded
that it does not grant approval to the request from Softbank BB.
This
decision of the MIC to settle the dispute without squarely tackling
the Softbank BB’s claim that the allotment rule is not clear,
however, has left the possibility that the same controversy will rekindle
in the upcoming allotment task of the 1.7-GHz band.
