Nikkei BP to become Japan's first magazine publisher with an editorial bureau in Beijing

Tokyo -- December 2, 2002 -- Nikkei Business Publications has announced that it was granted permission from the Chinese government to station its staff writer in Beijing. Nikkei BP is in fact the first magazine publisher in Japan to be granted this permission. Preparations are underway to open the Nikkei BP Beijing Editorial Bureau in March 2003 where its staff writer will gather information on China's high-tech as well as industry/economy news and trends.

Currently, Nikkei BP's editorial and sales offices are based in six locations around the world, namely New York, London, Silicon Valley, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taipei. The Beijing Editorial Bureau will be the seventh.

In recent years, Nikkei BP has been engaged in some notable activities that involve China. For example, Nikkei BP and its 100% subsidiary based in Hong Kong, Nikkei Business Publications Asia Ltd, jointly launched Nikkei Electronics China in September of this year, as a monthly Chinese-language magazine offering advanced technology information to electronics engineers and managers in China. Nikkei BP Asia has been publishing Nikkei Electronics Asia (in three editions of English, Complex Chinese and Korean) since 1992.

Since 1997, Nikkei BP has also been operating the Chinese-language version of its renowned "BizTech" news site to offer IT and management information from Japan and the world to Chinese readers. From November 22 to 24, Nikkei BP, together with Fudan University in Shanghai, China, operated a seminar featuring top executives of Japanese companies to lead the 21st century. This seminar was held as one of the events conducted in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China.
