Nikkei BP to Gather Nanotech Specialists

Tokyo -- August 27, 2003 -- Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. has announced that it will hold a seminar in October to celebrate the September launch of its premium online PDF newsletter, "Nikkei Nanotechnology Inside eReport." Nikkei Nanotechnology Inside eReport is an online newsletter focused on the provision of exclusive information to corporate managers charged with technological management and to those at research institutions (June 11, 2003 Company News). The seminar will take place as part of "Nikkei Nanotech Fair 2003," an event organized by Nihon Keizai Shimbun and co-organized by Nikkei BP to feature the most up-to-date research achievements related to nanotechnology. Centering on an integrated theme of "Fostering a New Industry: Shedding Light on Nanotechnology," the seminar will have Chief Scientific Officers (CSOs) and Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) from diversified industries to share their views on ways of revitalizing their respective industries through the exploitation of nanotech.

Hailed from the electronics/optical devices industry is Dr. Koichi Tsuzuki, Research Director of Storage Technology Research Center, Research & Development Group, Hitachi, to deliver a speech entitled "National Diet Library's Data Condensed to a Size of a Sugar-cube." From the nanotech material field, Dr. Yoshimi Kubo, Senior Manager, Research NanotechTechnology Center, Fundamental Research Laboratories, NEC Corporation will give a speech entitled "Developing Fuel Cells for Mobile PCs Using Carbon Nanohorn : The Real Power of Japanese Companies Where Consumer Products Are Produced at Their Fundamental Research Labs." Finally, Mr. Yoshikazu Tobinaga, President & COO of Nano Device and System Research Incorporation (NanodeS) will deliver "Light Make-up With Microscopic Needles: MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) Opens a New Cosmetics Market." A panel discussion will follow where the above three speakers will participate as panelists. As a special guest, Mr. Koji Omi, who is former Japanese Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy will give a short presentation and join the panelists for discussing the topic, "Revitalizing Japanese Industries Through Nanotechnology." The panel discussion will be hosted by Takashi Kurokawa, Editor-in-Chief of Nikkei Nanotechnology. Around 300 seats are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Nikkei Nanotechnology subscribers will receive priority over the seminar registration.
