"RFID TECHNOLOGY" Website Makes Its Debut

Tokyo -- December 24, 2003 -- Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. has on December 9 unveiled its new website entitled "RFID TECHNOLOGY (contents available in Japanese only)" established to support the commercialization of the RFID technology. Wireless IC tag is a technology that installs ID codes on various products for economic efficiencies and is already showing sound effects at libraries where RFID is used to organize books. The wireless IC tag is about to take a turn into an all-out commercialization and is anticipated to play a crucial role in managing distribution and traceability systems. The "RFID TECHNOLOGY" website aims to deliver timely news on the commercialization of that technology.

The website will be operated under the joint editorial auspices of Nikkei Computer, Nikkei Electronics and Nikkei Byte. To be featured are: (1) Reports from on-site managers who have employed the RFID technology on how they have conducted their field tests and completed the implementation of the technology; (2) Columns written by thought leaders on views of their respective industries; (3) Lessons on RFID/wireless tags from basics to application; (4) Analysis and trends of the technology; and (5) Flash news reports of the technology.

Plans are underway to publish books on the RFID technology around twice a year and expand the efforts beyond website and books into the field of face-to-face events. Users of "RFID TECHNOLOGY" website can opt-in free of charge to subscribe to a monthly e-zine to grasp a snapshot of the latest information posted on the website. Information on coming books and events, both of which are slated to debut in March 2004, will also be announced through the e-mail magazine.
