Nikkei BP to launch "Nikkei RFID TECHNOLOGY," a newsletter specializing in wireless IC tags

Tokyo -- November 12, 2004 -- Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. has announced that it will launch "Nikkei RFID TECHNOLOGY" on January 20, 2005, a newsletter on the latest information on the practical application of wireless IC tags.

Wireless IC tag (RFID tag) is increasingly drawing world's attention as one of the key technologies of the ubiquitous era, and its application is considered in the fields of manufacturing, logistics, traceability and customer services at a scale beyond the existing framework of an organization and an industry.

According to a survey conducted among advanced users of wireless IC tags by Nikkei BP's RFID TECHNOLOGY website and the Nikkei Computer magazine, more than 40% of the respondents said they have taken some actions toward its practical application. Out of these respondents, 80% said they will be starting its commercialization. On the other hand, there exist a plethora of problems in the actual introduction of wireless IC tags, including introduction costs as well as technological & operational issues that are unique to radio wave.

Eying the era of full-scale application of the wireless IC tag, "Nikkei RFID TECHNOLOGY" will be a monthly newsletter, mainly targeting those engaged in the system development and introduction of practical application, as well as vendors and system integrators.

The newsletter (texts available in Japanese only) will offer timely and detailed cutting-edge information on practical application of the wireless IC tag, focusing on five editorial pillars of: (1) standardization trends; (2) latest examples of introduction and information on practical application based on verification test; (3) trends on governmental policies; (4) latest trends on products and services; (5) latest trends on technology. Not only will Nikkei RFID Technology introduce insightful cases of Japan - but also the latest case-specific information from outside of Japan including examples of Wal-Mart (US), Metro (Germany), and Tesco (UK). In addition, subscribers to the newsletter will have exclusive access to the premium contents of the RFID TECHNOLOGY website.
