Tech-On! Goes Live Today
Tokyo -- January 4, 2005 -- Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. (Nikkei BP) has today introduced a new portal dubbed "Tech-On!" Tech-On! is an integration of NE ONLINE (the website to go for electronic engineers), Automotive Technology (for auto engineers) and Nikkei Monozukuri ONLINE (for mechanical design/manufacturing) to become a one-stop online platform delivering specialized information to all engineers in the manufacturing sector (Service available in Japanese only as of January 4).
The launch of this new site was fueled in part by engineer's increasing demands for technology information beyond fields of their specialty. Faced with fierce global competition and shorter development period, engineers are now being forced to create added value to products while slashing material costs. If you take automobiles for example, more and more demands are arising out of auto engineers for the latest information on LSIs and software development to create added value to their hybrid cars. On the other hand, spurred by the bustling in-vehicle electronic devices market, electronics engineers are devouring the latest information on auto technologies. In other words, whether being electronic engineers or auto engineers, they are highly concerned about the latest technology information on fields other than their vertical areas of interest.
Tech-On! will consist of 13 theme-specific sites including automobile, digital consumer devices, mobile phones, semiconductor, telecommunications, electronic parts, mechanical mechatronics and embedded software. Also to be featured are interdisciplinary areas that transcend the 13 topics so that a visitor to the site would be able to obtain the newest technology information related to the manufacturing industry at one-stop. Specialized staff writers of Nikkei Electronics, Nikkei Microdevices, Nikkei Monozukuri and Nikkei Automotive Technology magazines will concert their outright efforts to feed news both inside and outside Japan as well as providing in-depth analyses. The launch comes just in time for 2005 North American International Auto Show and 2005 International CES, the world's largest annual tradeshow for consumer technology. Tech-On! will orchestrate their efforts together with members of Nikkei BP Silicon Valley Editorial Bureau to highlight showcased technologies, products, electronic parts of International CES, the world's largest annual tradeshow and to feature product strategies of exhibitors as well as reporting breaking news from Detroit.
