Nikkei Electronics Acquires Exclusive Translation Right of IEEE Software in Japan, Aiming to Strengthen Its Software Engineering ContentTokyo – October 1, 2006 – Nikkei Electronics, an electronics magazine published by Nikkei Business Publications (President & CEO: Seiichi Oteru; Tokyo), has acquired the exclusive translation right of a software engineering magazine IEEE Software in Japan. Articles useful to Japanese engineers will be selected by editors of Nikkei Electronics and run on the magazine in Japanese translation starting in October. Currently, the term "software engineering" is not necessarily accepted widely in Japan. While the importance of software quality and the massiveness of possible damage caused by trouble have become widely recognized since the bug flurry of cell phones in 2001, little consideration has been given to technical aspects of the issue, such as what to be done specifically to prevent incidents of bugs and ensure quality. What is necessary to turn current software development into "genuine, process-based software making" is not mentality-oriented proposition for higher quality awareness but specific actions to cultivate techniques, skills, and engineers. Nikkei Electronics has been enthusiastically seeking to introduce the trends of the world in software engineering to Japanese engineers. This translation partnership will greatly help achieve that goal. "I'm very excited about this translation partnership with the industry's leading magazine IEEE Software," said Mr. Yosuke Mochizuki, editor-in-chief of Nikkei Electronics. "The Japanese electronics industry, which has grown with more emphasis on hardware, is now beginning to turn its eyes also to strengthening of software. By introducing trends of the world in our magazine, we hope for this movement in the industry to be accelerated."
Mr. Warren G. Harrison, editor-in-chief of IEEE Software, made a comment, too. "We at IEEE Software are delighted to have this opportunity to partner with Nikkei Electronics. This relationship is a great advancement in our ongoing efforts to internationalize IEEE Software and reach software developers and engineers around the world. The joint efforts of the IEEE Computer Society and Nikkei Electronics will certainly help to build new communication channels and an ever-larger community of technical colleagues."
