Nikkei BP names Yukoh Kawamura President & CEO
Tokyo -- February 22, 2002 -- Nikkei Business Publications announced today the
appointment of Yukoh Kawamura to the position of President & Chief Executive
Officer. This appointment will take effect on March 28.
"The Japanese economy is facing a very difficult situation and so is its
publishing industry. We are no doubt in a time of change. But a time of
change is also a time to make new challenges. Our 600 plus staff writers who
have extensive experience and credentials in their fields as well as our reputation
as provider of strong advertising opportunities will surely enable us to cope with
any changes and continue to thrive as the largest and most trusted source of
business and technology news in Japan," said Kawamura.
Kawamura graduated from Waseda University in 1962 with a bachelor's degree
in politics. He joined Nihon Keizai Shimbun in 1962 as an economic journalist
where he was first assigned to the Capital Market & Corporate News
Department. During his career at Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Kawamura
experienced various posts including New York Correspondent and Editor of The
Nikkei Industrial Daily (now named The Nikkei Business Daily).
In 1998, Kawamura came to Nikkei BP as Senior Executive Managing Director
to oversee editorial matters, book publishing, public relations and the Business
Group. He became Executive Vice President in 2000 in charge of editorial
matters, book publishing, public relations and events business.
From 1984 to 1988, Kawamura served as Editor-in-Chief of Nikkei Business, the
flagship general business magazine of Nikkei BP. As Editor-in-Chief, he
introduced many unique concepts and theories to the Japanese business world
such as the life cycle of a company being thirty years.
Hisao Yoshimura, the current President & CEO, will become Chairman also as
of March 28.
