NIKKEI VENTURE MANAGERS CLUB Organizes a Mission to China

Tokyo -- August 8, 2002 -- NIKKEI VENTURE MANAGERS CLUB (NVC), a business unit of Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. aimed at supporting managers of small and venture businesses in Japan, organized a mission to China from June 30 through July 6. The mission, comprised of 21 top management executives of small businesses in Japan, made a tour to Dalian, Shanghai, Xiamen, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, with the aim of seeing and experiencing the latest trends in various different industries after China's accession to the WTO.

The highlight of the tour was the visit to Shenzhen where a large number of factories are located. In Shenzhen, the mission made visits to the Techno Centre, which incubates small businesses in Japan that are striving to advance into the Chinese market, and also to the China Factory of FITTEC Electronics, which is growing rapidly with its electronics manufacturing service. Through these two visits, the mission gained an opportunity to see with their own eyes the manufacturing sites of China that take full advantage of its abundant manpower.

The mission also made a stop in Shanghai, the economic center of China, to visit Shanghai Omron Control Components and Shanghai Hualian Lawson. At each company, the president explained the current situation of his industry, after which active interchanges of opinions were seen with the mission about distinctive features of doing business in China. The mission also visited the agricultural development region on the outskirts of Shanghai to learn the recent trends in China's agricultural products market.

In Dalian, the mission received lectures on the construction and real estate markets in China and, in Xiamen, made a visit to the factory of a food company whose products are being exported to Japan.

Upon returning to Tokyo, NVC conducted a questionnaire survey among the participants of the mission to ask their level of satisfaction with the tour. The results showed that a majority of them were highly satisfied. NVC will continue to develop such overseas missions as part of its efforts to reinforce the range of member services.
