"Brand Japan Survey" Begins
The Research Department of NikkeiBP is embarking on the "Brand Japan Survey"with the aim of evaluating and rating the influential brands in Japan. To be studied are corporate brands as well as product brands from the eyes of a total 10,000 businesspeople and consumers, making it the largest brand survey in Japan.
To ensure accuracy, the Brand Japan Survey will be conducted in three separate stages. Firstly, in November, a preliminary survey was conducted on the web to pick up the names of influential brands. Secondly, a committee of sixteen leading figures representing business, advertising and journalism met in mid December to narrow those brands down to 1,200. Finally, in January, a questionnaire survey will be sent out by mail.
Professor David A. Aaker of University of California at Berkeley, the global authority on branding known for his work Managing Brand Equity, has been appointed Special Advisor to the Brand Japan project. Results of the survey will be compiled into a report in late March, based on which an Archive session will be held in early April where Professor Aaker will be featured in a commemorative seminar.
Researches Show NIKKEI BUSINESS's Popularity as Number One General Business Magazine in Japan
In December 2000, NikkeiBP published the third issue of NIKKEI LABORATORY OF ADVERTISING & PROMOTION (=NIKKEI LAP). Compiled in this issue were the results of mainly syndicated surveys and researches on magazines and newspapers for businesspeople, which evidenced the ever-increasing presence of NIKKEI BUSINESS as the number one general business magazine in Japan.
To give an example, Japan Business Readership Survey showed that NIKKEI BUSINESS is read by 57.8% of corporate executives, ranking second only to Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Japan's largest business daily, among the 45 newspapers/weeklies/monthlies studied. As another example, MAGASCENE 2000 revealed that NIKKEI BUSINESS is evaluated as the second among all 445 magazines studied, and number one among general business magazines, in terms of readership among corporate executives and managers, excelling by far the rival titles such as Diamond Weekly and President.
NIKKEI LAP is an eight-page bilingual brochure written in English and Japanese. Please contact us for copies of the third issue.
NikkeiBP EcoManagement Forum Launches a Circular
In late November of 2000, NikkeiBP EcoManagement Forum, a membership organization aimed at contributing to the continuing development of environment-conscious management, published a circular by the name of "ECOgraph." With its articles edited around the key theme of symbiosis of companies and the earth environment, the inaugural issue of ECOgraph also introduced the member companies as well as the activities of the Forum. Approximately 20,000 copies were distributed, including mailing together with the January 2001 issue of NIKKEI ECOLOGY and handing out at environment-related exhibitions. The next issue of ECOgraph is planned for publication around spring.
Another new move made by the EcoManagement Forum is the opening of a Web site accessible only by the 83 member companies. To be made available with the input of ID and password are full-text records of speeches made at workshops and bulletin boards to promote exchange of information among member companies.
NikkeiBP News, covering the latest moves at Nikkei Business Publications, is also distributed as a biweekly e-mail newsletter. If you wish to receive it on a regular basis, please write to nbpnews@nikkeibp.co.jp.
