NikkeiBP to Present "NikkeiBP BizTech Book Awards"

-- May 1, 2001--Under the auspices of Bookreview, NikkeiBP will establish "NikkeiBP BizTech Book Awards" with the aim of recognizing outstanding books that contributed to the advancement and development of technologies and business management in Japan. Award-winners will be selected in the two categories of technology and business management. To be considered for the first awards are books that were published in Japan from July 2000 to June 2001. The commendation ceremony will be held on October 30 during the autumn book week in Japan.

Screening of NikkeiBP BizTech Book Awards will be conducted in three separate stages based on such perspectives as innovativeness of themes and concepts, uniqueness and profundity in analysis, logic lucidity, and reader-friendliness in writing. In the first stage of screening, Bookreview will select around 2,000 books whose reviews are written by either the company or NikkeiBP. Secondly, a steering committee to be convened by NikkeiBP will narrow the selection down to twenty. Finally, a judging committee consisting of five prominent figures representing the business and academic circles will chose six winners in the categories of technology and business management, including one grand prize should there be an exceptionally outstanding title. Winners will each receive one million yen and the grand prizewinner will receive 1.5 million yen.

NikkeiBP will hold "Design Conference 2001 Japan" and "IP Japan 2001" on May 23 and 24 at Pan Pacific Hotel Yokohama, expecting to draw a total of 1,500 visitors. The events will consist of a number of presentations on the cutting-edge electronics technology which will be given by leading industry experts and scholars. With the aim of offering effective solutions for today's design engineers, the fourth Design Conference will focus on the eight themes of "Bluetooth," "IEEE1394," "USB2.0," "WDM/Optical Switching," "Next-Generation Mobile Communications," "High-Speed Bus and Interface for Servers/Routers," "System-In-Package" and "EMS."

On the other hand, IP Japan, a conference offering seminars and a table-top exhibition which will be held for the fifth time, will highlight the commercialization and application of IP, or intellectual property. As the event anticipates luring a considerable number of visitors from overseas, all the presentations will accompany English interpretation.
