NIKKEI BIOTECHNOLOGY & BUSINESS Makes Its Debut
-- May 23, 2001 -- NIKKEI BIOTECHNOLOGY & BUSINESS released its inaugural issue on May 15. The launch of this new monthly exploring the application of biotechnology to business came amid the growing voice among Japanese biotechnology engineers, product developers and business planners that information currently available on this emerging sector is scarce.
The 138-page launch issue runs two features, "Is Your Company Ready for Genome-Driven Drug Discovery?" and "Which Markets Will Prosper with Development of Biotechnology?" Serial sections carried in this issue include "Bio Venture Frontline," "Age of Bio Products," "NewsScan" and "Overseas Topics." Sixty-three advertisers, including makers of research equipment and providers of biotech services, placed a total of fifty-six pages of ads in the launch issue.

"BizTech" Launches Personalized Portal Service
On May 8, NikkeiBP's "BizTech" news site (http://biztech.nikkeibp.co.jp/; Japanese only) underwent an all-out renewal with the aim of realizing greater usability for the sake of its users. Among the key changes made at this occasion was the launch of a personalized portal service by the name of "BizTech Plus."
The idea of BizTech Plus is to enable users to create their personalized web pages by aggregating the latest information from the sixty-plus Web sites of NikkeiBP. Offered on a free-of-charge subscription basis, BizTech Plus aims to achieve greater efficiency and convenience for its users. This service was made possible through an alliance with OnePage, a growing venture business in the U.S., which provided a completely new and unique technology of collecting and displaying content.
NikkeiBP positions BizTech Plus as a value-added membership service to the users of its Web sites, and will push forward with reinforcing its content partners and expanding BizTech's capabilities as a web portal.
Next "NET&COM" Show Scheduled from February 6 to 8, 2002
NikkeiBP announced that it will organize NET&COM 2002, an event showcasing information/networking systems, from February 6 to 8 next year at Makuhari Messe. Witnessing the increasing importance of e-solutions for all sorts of companies, the show to be held for the tenth time will have the key theme of "The Frontline of e-Solutions in the Broadband Age." NET&COM 2002 will present six specialized zones of "Net Solution," "System Solution," "EC/Web Solution," "Net Security," "CRM Solution" and "International."
Through active promotions in various media, including NikkeiBP's 14 IT magazines, Web sites, e-mail and direct mail, NET&COM 2002 assures to lure a number of quality visitors. Last year's show (http://expo.nikkeibp.co.jp/netcom21/eng/) gathered 86,435 visitors, nearly 25% of whom were managers in charge of planning information systems at IT user companies. A booth space (3m x 3m) is 420,000 yen and discounts are available depending on the number of booths ordered. The closing date for application is October 19.
Growing Popularity of e-Mail Newsletter from "Mobile BizTech"
"Mobile BizTech" (http://090.com/; Japanese only) is a service of delivering news from the "BizTech" news site to web-enabled mobile handsets. Ever since the service was introduced in October last year, Mobile BizTech has been extremely popular among BizTech users for allowing them to enjoy greater flexibility in when and where they access the news site.
In April this year, Mobile BizTech launched yet another popular service - an e-mail newsletter. As of May 23, the new service has attracted 25,000 registered users, boosting Mobile BizTech's pageview to as much as 100,000 per day. A key feature of the new e- mail newsletter service is that it allows its users to customize when they want to receive the newsletter, while guiding them to the best suited page in Mobile BizTech.
