Nikkei BP Presents "PC Best Software Awards"

Tokyo -- September 27, 2001 -- The eleven PC magazines published by Nikkei Business Publications (Nikkei Personal Computing, Nikkei Byte, Nikkei Click, Nikkei WinPC, Nikkei Best PC, Nikkei PC21, Nikkei Net Navigator, Nikkei Mobile Computing, Nikkei Software, Nikkei PC Beginners and Nikkei Net Trading) commended the winners of the 14th "PC Best Software Awards" during WORLD PC EXPO 2001.

This year, awards were presented to fourteen software products chosen on a popularity vote by 1.9 million readers and subscribers of the eleven magazines (= "PC Best Software Awards") as well as to selections by the eleven editorial departments of twelve excellent software products that symbolize the trend of the past year (= "Editors' Choice Awards") and three that have explored new arenas of personal computing (= "Business Impact Awards"). For PC Best Software Awards, votes were sent in from approximately 30,000 readers and subscribers to choose the best software in a total of fourteen categories, based on the number of collected votes and the average score of evaluation.

Notable about this year's PC Best Software Awards was that the top software products were the same from last year in thirteen categories. Microsoft continued to boast its overwhelming popularity in the field of basic business software with its products winning the top spot in six categories (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Windows 2000). Furthermore, CD-R recording software and digital camera-related software improved their ranks considerably in the systems utility category and the home utility category, respectively.
