WORLD PC EXPO to Become "WPC EXPO" in 2002
Tokyo -- December 4, 2001 -- Nikkei Business Publications has announced that
its WORLD PC EXPO show will become "WPC EXPO" in 2002. The show,
launched in 1995 as a PC-centric event, has outgrown its name over the years
into Asia's largest IT exhibition.
In the new name, "W" represents words such as world, WWW, wired and
wireless, while "P" embodies all sorts of IT platforms including networked
household appliances, PDAs and mobile handsets, and "C" stands for
communications, computing and content. Hence, the new WPC EXPO show
will cover the evolution of various e-platforms together with their applications,
services, content and solutions, making yet another step forward as the single
source for everything that relates to IT and digital technology.
The theme of WPC EXPO 2002, to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from October 16
to 19, 2002, will be "The IT showcase for Ubiquitous Network Society in
Broadband Age." In Japan today, broadband communications is spreading
rapidly and the age of ubiquitous computing is almost here where anyone can
access the high-speed network at any time and from any place. Featuring the
two most timely keywords of "broadband" and "ubiquitous" in its theme, WPC
EXPO 2002 will present an opportunity for the visitors to feel and experience a
more affluent society realized by IT technology, IT products and IT solutions.
The show's official website, "iWPC," will also re-launch in the spring of 2002,
after integration with the "PC-Gaz!" website that offers smart tips on buying and
using PCs and other digital products (new site name and URL to be announced in January 2002). Posting breaking news throughout the
year, the new site will serve as a helpful source for users and buyers of IT and
digital technology. Such information will also be delivered to wireless devices
including mobile handsets, making WPC EXPO even more befitting as the show
of the ubiquitous age.
