WPC EXPO 2002 to Be Announced in China

Tokyo -- December 19, 2001 -- In January 2002, Nikkei Business Publications will announce its WPC EXPO 2002 show in four Chinese cities; Nanjing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Beijing. WPC EXPO, formerly WORLD PC EXPO, is Asia's largest IT showcase that attracts more than 300,000 visitors annually.

The WPC EXPO 2002 announcement session in Beijing will be a part of the "China IT Seminar" to be hosted by Nikkei Business Publications. The seminar will feature Chairman Koji Ohboshi of NTT DoCoMo as special speaker, who will discuss the trends of wireless communications/home information appliances in Japan and the roles that i-Mode will play*. Mr. Ohboshi's presentation will be followed by a speech by Director General Zhang Qi of the Department of Electronics and I.T. Products at the Chinese Ministry of Information Industry. Ms. Zhang's presentation will focus on the efforts that are being made in China for expansion of the information industry. The announcement sessions in Nanjing, Shanghai and Tianjin, on the other hand, will feature a lecture by Hiroyuki Watanabe, Editor-in-Chief of Nikkei Personal Computing, on the latest of Japan's PC industry.

WORLD PC EXPO 2001, held this year in October, carried a total of 792 exhibitors. Of them, 279 were from outside of Japan, including 30 from mainland China. The results of a post-exhibition survey conducted among these overseas exhibitors revealed that 84% were either very satisfied or satisfied with their business results, 84% were able to meet visitors either largely exceeding or exceeding their expectations, and 71% thought the quality of the visitors were either very good or good.

WPC EXPO 2002 will be held from October 16 to 19, 2002 at Tokyo Big Sight. Projecting 320,000 visitors during the four days, the show will be build around the theme of "IT Showcase for Ubiquitous Network Society in Broadband Age."
