Conference to Discuss the Future of Mobility is Finally Held!

Tokyo – October 23, 2017 – FUTURE MOBILITY SUMMIT organizing committee (Nikkei Inc., Nikkei Business Publications, Inc., and others) will host the “FUTURE MOBILITY SUMMIT: TOKYO 2017 DAY2,” concurrent event of “Tokyo Motor Show 2017.” “FUTURE MOBILITY SUMMIT: TOKYO 2017 DAY2” is held on October 27 (Friday) this year at Tokyo Big Sight (Ariake, Koto-ku, Tokyo).

New mobile society is about to emerge in the next 10 years with automobile business being the core. In these last years, electric and electronic industries and IT industries have rapidly developed their software and services, and the fight for supremacy among different industries became very intensive. Having seen this change, Japan came to a conclusion to hold the conference to discuss what is important in international competitiveness concerning mobility (the nation as well as ministries and government office’ commitments, law amendment, demonstration, alliance with networks, etc.) and how to build the business concerning this matter.

Track A: Topic “With Increasing Automated Driving Vehicles and Electric Vehicles, How Do the Future Automobiles Develop in 2020?”

In track A, we will consider topics of automated driving technologies which keeps developing in rapid speed as well as electric motorization and performance improvement of internal-combustion engine symbolized by electric vehicles (EV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), and seek the future of automobiles after 2020. Toyota Motor, Nissan Motor, Honda Motor, and Mazda Motor that lead the world with their completed automobiles and their parts will be on the stage. In addition, the president of SUBARU, Mr. Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, will give a talk on the direction of our future in a one-to-one conversation format. The president of NTT DOCOMO, Mr. Kazuhiro Yoshizawa, will also give speech on network technology that will make the continuous connection of network possible, which is crucial to automobiles.

Track B: Topic “Mobility Innovation Developing with Electric Vehicles and Added Services.”

In track B, we will discuss how the mobility innovation of small-sized electric vehicles and new services will become popular, and what kind of impact the new business will bring to traditional automobile industry. In the opening session, Nikkei BP’s staff writers will introduce the latest trends found by conducting research and interviews all over the world, and give comments on the new mobile innovation that is about to rise up. We will also discuss our future goals and visions to take regarding small-sized electric vehicles by inviting the startup companies from Japan and Europe. There are many start-up companies that challenge to new innovation regarding various services to improve the convenience toward potential users. These are users who do not own cars or considering buying a new car in the future. We will discuss the kind of business model that these start-up companies use to innovate the mobility.
